Training through a pandemic

This week's blog will be a short one. To be honest I wanted to skip this week due too a lack of energy. If you read last week's blog you would know that I am not the happiest camper lately, but I know I am not alone.

For a minute there, it felt like life was returning to some form of normalcy. People seemed happy again. It was though a breath of life was blown through the community.

To get outside, visit friends and family who we had not seen in months brought a lot of much needed joy.

For myself and many others, getting back to the gym was like Christmas morning. It was great to be back having the wide variety of equipment to choose from. Great to touch base with fellow members and trainers. We had all been through such similar struggles being in isolation for so long and you can see that everyone came back with a new appreciation and enthusiasm.

Then last week, due to a recent spike in covid cases, the government once again closed our gym doors. We got a little over a month of gym time and none of us were ready to give it up again.

So now we are all back at home. It was tough on the first day to train because I recently moved into a really small one bedroom apartment so space has now become an issue. I can't do any work with resistance bands because the only spots to set them up have no room to get any range.

All these could be reasons to fall off and I understand how many people do, but like everything else with this pandemic, we need to find ways to adapt. My workouts are now all bodyweight. Pushups, glute bridges, pull ups in the door frame, squats and some situps. On cardiovascular days I shadow box and do shuttle work before taking a 15-20 minute jog.

Nothing is ideal at the moment. It sucks!

Giving up however, serves no one.

This is what made me write this blog today. Discipline and dedication is what's keeping me going. It keeps me healthy and in this fight. Some days are really tough to get moving but it is the only way I will make it out this thing.

It's paramount that we all take care of ourselves. I am seeing so many people supporting the shutdowns and mass hysteria but at the same time, not taking care of their own health. This is ludicrous and highly hypocritical. Shutting down, proper sanitation,  social distancing are just a part of it.

The most important component at giving us the best fight against covid is if we all took care of our health.
